You’re welcome, Cynthia. One thing I’ve noticed since starting my Substack last year, is that I have found it very easy to access my name-calling, 10-year-old self when I write my essays and comments. My wife is a little concerned . . .
It actually makes me feel better to think of their work product coming from alcohol-induced delusions. Rather than the reality that even cold sober they spend their time dreaming up ways to harm the constituents who don’t look like or think differently from them.
FDR favoured a drink or three at cocktail hour daily, more when Churchill was visiting. But he wasn’t holier than thou. It’s the hypocrisy and mean spiritedness that are rank.
I live in WA State and we (most of us) like beer as much as our co-workers,, but I can bet $ that you would never see our state house in a photo like that. There are great pubs in Olympia where elected reps and employees can go after work, usually on Fridays or after a session.
BTW, I have been subscribing to the St Louis Post-Dispatch for the past month to learn more about your Senator Schmitt before I post my sub-stack on him and his opinion of DEI. I have found the P-D and the comments from its readers very helpful for my understanding of Missouri's politics and culture.
In bible belt NC, the bros always drink in secret, usually in their cars on back where they they can chuck their empties out the window to hide the evidence.
I moved to NC as a young adult in the 80's. Back then there were a lot more "dry counties", where liquor sales were not permitted. Even in counties that allowed it many restaurants were without liquor licenses so patrons brown bagged and brought their own booze. It seemed alien to me as a DC area transplant.
I recall when one of the more rural counties was deciding on whether to allow liquor sales but the "unholy alliance" was opposing it. What unholy alliance, you ask? The Baptists and the bootleggers!
I know that a few have applauded what is said to be local brew, but per the photo, Busch light, etc? To this 69 year old woman, one is forced to opine why are they NOT patronizing ACTUAL local MO micro breweries? Those boxes piled up as trash represents to me characterless swill-ish tasteless beverages that suggest not a lot of discerning consideration, that likely carries over to their legislative unprogressiveness. It may just be me...
When I was 11(1968) I was at the capitol getting signatures for the blue book. I was at the Secretary of State office when I saw a man with a dolly rolling in cases of beer, all AB products. Nothing changes in Missouri!
What’s worse than an ignorant, corrupt, regressive moron? I guess the answer would be a drunk, ignorant, corrupt, regressive moron. Good luck, Jess.
This is a great response. Thanks Norm! Now I don’t have to think of something clever on my own.

Apply to these fools

They can't taste it anyway since their mouths are always coated in 'backy juice.
My thoughts exactly.

Told you they would be playing Beer Pong in the government hallways.. Entitled schoolboys.
And it’s not even good beer!

YOU deserve time off, Jess! The goobers here in Florida don't do any better. Thank you for keeping up the fight for fairness and real life.
None of that is actual beer though!!!
(Yes, I'm a beer snob.)
Lol, my first thought was 'eeeww'... pee-water... So many great local breweries, I'm sure, and this is what was preferred.
But! But! It's a Missouri product Who couldn't be proud? (do I need to add the </s> tag?)
I'm pretty sure I read that the Speaker someone's office and converted it to a liquor closet.
Yup! He spent $60,000 on the remodel, including a liquor cabinet
They may have got a good look in their mirrors!
At least they're drinking local beer!
