I am sitting here, at work, at Subaru corporate and when I got the email I was so confused as to why a work email was coming through my personal account. We try hard to really live up to the Subaru Cares motto. :)
Holy cow ... I felt silly for my Subaru exception until I read this. I did the EXACT same thing knocking on doors in rural Arkansas. I myself am a proud Subaru driver and our field coordinator from one of our counties drove a Subaru along with two out of the five regular attendees at the county Democratic meeting!
Jess please don't feel like a hick. I live in a large urban center and I've gotten so turned around in those lots - one time I could actually see my car 2 levels down but kept missing it when I walked to find it, so I went up a floor and climbed over the fence to get down to my car!
That story makes me feel better too. I am parking garage challenged, but I will admit I have never had to climb over a wall to get to my car! I do know how frustrated you were feeling though.
What a lovely story to begin my day with. Ever since the election I've been waking with an aching heart crying out for a better, happier, World. For the time I was reading your essay I was in that "better, happier" place. Mahalo! 🌺
Great story and pretty accurate about the Subaru driver demographics, I think.
I have a strategy for parking garages that has always worked well for me. When working I often had to park in garages near office buildings and hospitals. I always headed to the top floor of the garage, even if I passed open spots on the way. There’s always an elevator, you can almost always park close to it, and you never have to wonder which floor it was you parked on. Just hit the top floor on the elevator button.
Owner of both a Forester and an Outback. Liberal. Democrat. Environmentalist. Lover of animals and public education. Multiple bird feeders and birdhouses. My front door is a deep royal blue. Have handmade wind spinners in front and back yards.
And I would absolutely help you find your car in a scary parking garage.
Jeff is MY AG, now, and I loved his post about the Subaru Exception. And I love it even more that it made your plight less scary. Thanks for this happy note! (*not a Subaru owner but my dad was, many many MANY Maine friends are)
Nah, the Pacific NW is covered in them. Blue states of environmentalists, union supporters, social programs and health care advocates; public schools (though struggling at the moment); getting Bob Ferguson for Governor who took Trump to court repeatedly and won every one of them. I feel so glad that I live here, not just for the breathtaking mountains and scenery, but for the traditionally left and moderate voters. We have a lot of red areas in our rural vicinities but so far they have not been able to get hold of influential positions. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell have done a good job of advancing our views in several ways.
PS highly recommend Subaru. I’ve had my Outback for 8 years and it’s a wonderful vehicle. Hasn’t needed anything major yet.
I drive a Forester. About a month ago I spent more time than I care to admit searching for my vehicle in the parking garage of the Albuquerque airport for pretty much the same reason. It’s not you, we’re just all very confusing as a species.
As a serial Subaru owner and (I hope) a kind person I love this story.
My wife and I echo that view as Subaru owners also, lol.
SAME!
Same!
As a Subaru driver, I strive to resemble that remark.

Haha! I have never owned a Subaru but now I may be changing my mind. ❤️
You need to consider getting permission to make an ad with this story.
As a city girl for decades, parking garage disorientation happens to all of us! You are in lots of good company.
I don't even need a parking garage. A big shopping mall does it every time! (Looking at you, Oak Park Mall...)
SAME! This even used to happen to me in the parking garage where I worked -- for 14 years!
I lose my mind in parking garages and I live in LA. Guess small town Arkansas is in my blood.

We don't have a bumper sticker on our car. We own a Subaru. We feel like it's 'nuff said.
I love that you don’t have to deface your vehicle with stickers like I do. I think I need a Subaru.
My Subarus have all been plastered with them. Too much?
No, I put some of those stickers on mine, too. Some people need it spelled out.

That makes me feel better, friend

Great advice!
This story makes me smile, especially because I just bought my first Subaru 😊.
Best wishes to the UAW as they organize workers at Subaru's Lafayette, Indiana, plant.
I drive a union-made, American-made Ford, but I hope owners of Subaru vehicles will support the unionization drive.

I hope they get their Union!

I thought Suburus were the official car of the state of Maine! 😂
They are! Especially the green ones!

Yeah, Subaru are kind of the state car of New Mexico as well as the Toyota forerunner and the large large trucks’
And Maine
