I have unfortunate news for you: I work in healthcare and a LOT of doctors and nurses are Trumpers. Medicine actually tends to be a slightly conservative-leaning profession, for whatever reason. Maybe because it has tended to skew older and male, I don't know. But what I can also say is the younger generations becoming physicians are very concerned about social justice and helping to right the historical wrongs of healthcare. Know hope.

I had a friend, a young man two years older than my oldest child, who's 44. The friend is a doctor. He was a kind hearted young man until he wasn't. He has turned into a radical right wing person I don't even recognize.

It's so very bizarre to me that a doctor — on the front lines of care during the pandemic, caring for Covid deniers, caring for people mislead about the virus and persuaded not to wear a mask by their president — that a doctor could support a man who so casually denied science, who said it would just... disappear, like magic; who politicized a deadly virus with the word China, as if to say "don't blame me for the deaths, in fact [by implication] blame the Chinese, hate them, not me for mishandling a response." That man — fearing to lose political advantage, withheld information that could have saved lives. Those two months of his politically-inspired Covid denial cost an estimated thirty-thousand American lives, 30,000!

I saw refrigerator trucks parked behind a few different hospitals to hold the overflow of bodies waiting for autopsy or burial or whatever, It was truly horrific to witness and cannot be "swept under the rug" Let us not forget that the denial of Covid was only ONE of the astoundingly dangerous actions or NON actions committed by Thump's 4 year reign of terror in the WH! With access to our nuclear codes! That two faced slum lord only made it there because of a total lack of interest in participating in this experiment called Democracy made for the people & by the people.... Only the "people" stopped caring or just don't understand how lucky we all are to live in a free Democracy! Only the brave souls who join the military really get it.. the rest of US are just sucking air. Too cast a vote in an election is a small price to pay to keep our freedom....

Why are you sad about this? It makes no sense to me to be “sad” about who someone would vote for.

Expand full comment

Who you vote for is a reflection of your values. In this next election if you vote red you support autocracy and if you vote blue you support democracy. It has never been more clear the difference in party and values. This is why it makes us sad, that people would vote to give up democracy.

Expand full comment

How can you look at the work Biden did and NOT see an autocracy in action? He talked about being a “uniter of people” and then proceeded to do ONLY what the far-left wanted in this country. He silenced the free speech rights of US citizens in direct conflict with the Constitution. The list of authoritarian actions he has taken in lengthy. If you’re not willing or able to rationally look at this honestly, then you are being willfully blind to reality.

Expand full comment

How did Biden silence free speech, exactly? What authoritarian actions? How did he take food from children?

I need facts. Convince me.

See my previous comment. Those people cannot be convinced: If Trumpers could be swayed by logic and facts, they wouldn't be Trumpers.

Expand full comment

He directly pressured social media companies to ban, shadow ban, and remove posts of people who questioned the recommendations of the White House in response to Covid. This included licensed physicians and scientists. And then took the step to discredit those same working professionals. This was found to be true in court. His multi-trillion dollar Infrastructure bills are directly linked to the astronomical inflation rates we’ve seen. Savings are at record lows and credit card debt is at a record high. These things 100% affect the ability for families to feed themselves and their children.

Expand full comment

Tell me how a candidate says he is going to be a dictator compared to Biden, how is that not autocratic? I would like examples of Biden’s autocratic behavior. You guys that generalize usually have no proof to back up your claim.

Expand full comment

Oh, you're a Trumper. Never mind. I'll never convince you of a thing. If Trumpers could be swayed by logic and facts, they wouldn't be Trumpers.

Expand full comment

The funny part of all this is I’m not a Trumper. I think he’s a political hack, and acts like a petulant baby. I wish he wasn’t candidate for president because, as a person, he’s just not presidential. But there are legitimate reasons why tens of millions of Americans voted for him over Biden. So to lump all those people into one-size-fits-all labels of MAGA and Trumper just because they have both eyes and ears open to what BOTH political parties are doing is just silly. Biden said it himself. Following a single leader blindly is a threat to democracy. This applies to him and the democrats as much as it does to Trump. If you can’t honestly reflect on how Biden performed over the last 4 years and not see some problems, then you’re just as guilty of extremism as that tiny pocket of Trump voters.

Expand full comment

Can you fill me in with some details on how Biden silenced the free speech rights of US citizens? Are you possibly referring to social media platforms (private companies) exercising their content moderation policies to protect users from misinformation and disinformation?

Biden demonized anyone who would vote for Trump. If I remember correctly, that was over 70 million people at the last election. Biden took action to silence free speech rights on social media, print media, and newspapers for citizens, doctors, or scientists who disagreed or even questioned Biden’s actions during Covid. Biden forced businesses to close and forced kids to school at home well beyond where other countries were opening up, and Covid danger was long past. Biden’s multi-trillion dollar infrastructure bills have a direct link to the 9.1% inflation rate that killed our economy. American’s savings are at their lowest level in 40 years, credit card use is at a record high, housing prices are almost complexly beyond reach for anyone in their 30’s to get into the market, food prices have gone up; all directly related to Biden’s actions. He keeps forgiving student loan debt which takes tax money directly out of those who never went to college in order to pay off the debts of people who did. And most recently, Biden purposely hid his declining health issues from the country. I haven’t donated a dime to any campaign, and I never will. But I vote in every election. Cheers to you; I wish you the best.

Interesting! I am nurse who works at an enormous health network. Many of our docs are progressive and have same sex spouses. However, it is a huge network, and while I don't talk politics at work (general practice) there are some nurses I work with who are hard core Trumpers, probably some docs too-don't know. Among the nursing population, I find that the pro Trump crowd is either extremely religious and vote on abortion alone, or just plain old misinformed; these are educated folks, some with masters degrees. I'm not sure what they are thinking-it's actually stunning to me. Yeah, I can count the nurses on one hand who rejected covid treatments (but happily received the first vaccine) when it first became available to us in December of 2020. They all stood on “herd immunity” after the first dose. Their rationale was we (nursing) were still getting covid, albeit very mild self limiting cases. This due to, I believe, vaccines, and other factors we still don’t fully understand. People have meltdowns about wearing masks during a very serious pandemic. I worked 45 years in healthcare and through the pandemic. IT WAS UNPRECEDENTED in my 45 years. The steps taken were to protect the public and healthcare workers. That was not a freedom taken away. Wearing a mask was a civil responsibility to protect others. The response wasn’t perfect (trump inviting us to inject bleach) but the disease and the severity and voracity of the spread required the attempts at controlling it for the good of all. What the #%^* is wrong with people? Freedom does not mean doing whatever you want despite whether it would harm someone else. Freedom comes with responsibility towards others. I am politically and religiously progressive. Yet, I still hold to modesty in dress and speech and try for politeness and basic respect when interacting with others, especially with those who hold less power in the situation than I have. It is so strange that 1) this behavior seems more and more unusual these days and 2) in the past the conservatives held to these ideals and pointed the finger at us "liberals" for not "acting better." The parts of the religious conservatives' behavior that I once appreciated is fading into retribution, "what about-ism," and "glad to be pissing off a lib." I also know that Marjorie Taylor Greene has been swatted more than once. It is composed of a LOT of foreign students, particulary South Asian and Middle Eastern, and more first gen and ethnic minority students are attending, but not really enough to balance the scales yet in a significant way. Saying thank you for your bravery, your integrity and intelligence seems weak in the face of this sly dark evil directed at you and yours. You are heroic for every damned word you write. Please don’t stop.

Doing what you do takes lots of courage, something you have plenty of. I'm sorry you were subject to the methods of the "deplorables" of the MAGA movement. It just makes me more proud of what you have achieved and more determined to work towards ending their disruption of our 248 year experiment. #KeepGoing 👏🏻 🇺🇸 💪🏻 ⭐️
