This is something to know. The Southern Poverty Law Center tracks hate groups. Idaho has 21 but Missouri has 18. These groups may seem small but their impact is oversized.

The constitutional right to free speech allows them to openly preach hate and encourage violent behavior. Jess is right to remind us people like this can be among our friends and family. These people actively support legislatures like ours that oppress minorities, attack libraries and schools for providing opportunity, and completely promote the loss of women's rights and healthcare.

Candidates to oppose these hateful and oppressive ideas and laws have to be run in every available race.

I count friends who are MAGA,. I find it valuable to have these one on one chats, over a beer or coffee. I also have friends who will never vote for either Trump nor Biden. I learn a great deal by listening to their reasons for this position. I do not kid myself thinking I will change views. It is invaluable to learn. Jess showed the way by going much farther than I ever did.

I lived in the northwest in the 80s Oregon, Washington, Idaho. It was starting up then and yes it is beautiful out there. I planted trees in the wilderness area 400 acre plots at a time.

I like that you have pointed out that Idaho is uncontested. So is Iowa. We are working to change that.

It's atrocious how widespread the hate is. What really enables a lot of the hate are more moderate Republicans who hate Trump, but, when push comes to shove as they say in MO, they still vote for him.

I follow Adam Kinzinger R/RINO on Substack. He and others like Liz Cheney and Lincoln project devotees are working hard to change that. Supporting them is the fastest; surest way to push for the must needed change for that situation.

I'm proud and happy to subscribe to Adam Kinzinger and Robert Reich. Adam's last article addresses what you're talking about here!

Living in Indiana, I know this all to well. Having lived in Houston, Texas for six years, I know this all too well.

We need people to vote for in uncontested areas. I know there have to be more people who want change than those who don't, but no one is running to make that change a reality.

Sidenote: My sister lives in that region of Idaho and she loves it because it's beautiful. Someday we'll visit.

I live in California and have ‘former’ friends who’ve moved there because of their right-wing politics. Damn them for taking over such a gorgeous part of the country.

I am reading Attacks from Within By Barbara McQuade. Some of her prescriptions and recommendations for spending time with people who disagree with you are thoughtful and encouraging.
