My daughter in law is 12 weeks pregnant and was just told she has metastatic melanoma in her abdomen. She has to make a horrible decision now but luckily she lives in Washington, DC. This decision will be made by her, her husband and her doctor, not the government. When something like this hits close to home it makes you realize how crazy these abortion laws are.
I am so sorry to hear this & can not imagine how difficult that decision will be. I am however, so incredibly grateful that she is somewhere that she will have all the rights she is entitled to. Blessings to all of you. 💜
Oh, my dear ones! My heart just weeps for your daughter and all who love her! May you all find comfort in your freedom to make the choice that’s best. I’m so grateful on her behalf. Just after Dobbs, my niece, a conservative ‘pro-lifer’ in CA, learned her pregnancy was ectopic. I hope she woke up to the need for all women to be confident they don’t have to go to court to save their lives.
Oh, Maddie, sooo very sad to learn about your family's painful medical journey! May you all find peace and solace as you walk this difficult path. We are with you.
I hope you elect Lucas Kunce. I’m from California, but I love his adds and have him a donation. I hope he beats the pants off Haul Ass Hawley. What a jerk.
Agree with you! Lucas Kunce is an excellent candidate.
Missouri is a no abortion for any reason state. Another reason to check your registration at iwillvote.com and vote for Elad Gross for Attorney General and Lucas Kunce for Senate in November.
We should wear this ROEVEMBER shirt everyday until Nov 5 👇
Good on you and Missouri! The initiatives that are on your ballot will change the playing field. Ohio and Missouri are running on the same track in that regard. We have a fair districts measure on the Ohio ballot that gets politicians and political operatives out of the redistricting process. This concept changed the game in Michigan. Ohio and Missouri can do the same. Let's have each other's backs and get this done!
I’m sure you saw the shameful and cowardly act of the Attorney General in Arkansas. Citizens in that state also collected more than twice as many signatures as they needed to get abortion on the ballot in November. Then on cue, the Arkansas Supreme Court said there ‘might’ be some questions about the residency of some of the people who signed the petition. That is all the state Attorney General needed to hear for him to decline the ballot initiative on this fake technicality and so now it will not be on the ballot in November in Arkansas. This is how GOP political hacks defy the will of the people. They know they can’t win if their citizens get to vote on it so the game is to deny the citizens that choice. That’s about what one would expect from Arkansas and I’m damn surprised they didn’t pull some similar stunt in Missouri. Don’t let your guard down yet, something like that could still happen. Nothing is too low for these narcissistic white guys who desperately want to control women.
I agree. I’ll believe it when I see it. Because both AG Bailey and SOS Ashcroft have already done illegal things to keep it off the ballot, why would they stop now?
That’s why we need AG candidate Elad Gross + SOS candidate Barb Phifer to protect our rights when we pass the amendment. The amendment isn’t going to protect itself!
I’m reading, “Parting The Waters”, by Taylor Branch, America in the King Years 1954-63. If you’re wondering what that has to do with the comments here about your state? The same thing happened in the south with voting rights in an almost more destructive way with violent intimidation and death with no consequence to the perpetrators. Your comment just makes me dislike the southern states and the people that peddle this behavior still to this day. It’s the same racism just directed towards a different group. On a positive note, I’m beginning to feel a change and hope with news like Jess is reporting, that it is catching on.
Yes, but in Ohio even though access to health care was added to the Ohio Constitution almost a year ago the GOP State Legislature still has not changed the laws on the books. This effectively means that doctors are still in limbo about providing care and the GOP has openly said they are still looking for ways to go against the will of the people. Not much more can be done until the gerrymandering is also overcome and they have defied the Ohio Supreme Court on that matter 4 or 5 times already in the last 2 years. Their power was further consolidated yesterday as First Energy bought off the State AG for 20 million dollars to avoid prosecution in a bribery scandal that gave the GOP 60 million dollars to pass a a bill that allowed First Energy to get a $1 billion bailout.
This is just a reminder that voting for reproductive rights will only be the first step. Missouri legislators have vowed continued resistance if the initiative passes. Advocates had to go to the Missouri Supreme Court to enforce the initiative on Medicaid expansion.
Maybe we were more purple than blue. Missouri was once a true bellwether state that voted for the winning presidential candidates for almost a century. Those days are long gone.
Congrats to you, Jess, and all the Progressive Missourians who are doing the hard, necessary work to bring much needed and long overdue change to your redder than red state. It has to feel invigorating to see your efforts begin to pay off. Keep eating that elephant, one bite at a time.
Wow, great news Jesse! It sure doesn’t hurt that enthusiasm for Harris/Walz will lift the abortion measure and the abortion measure may do the same for Harris-Walz. Who knows what will happen in state legislator elections? Enthusiasm is contagious and I hope it spreads. Up and down, VOTE BLUE!
That's great news Jess! Draconian anti-abortion laws, like Missouri's, are based on a fundamentally FALSE moral equivalency. I challenge anyone who claims to believe that an embryo is the moral equivalent of a baby to consider this: You are a mother of a newborn baby, and you are in the maternity ward. Your baby is in the newborn nursery down the corridor to the left. Down the corridor to the right is the IVF clinic where you have two frozen embryos. A fire breaks out and you have time to save your newborn baby or your two frozen embryos. Which will you choose? Now ask yourself this: How many frozen embryos would you have to save to make abandoning your newborn baby the “moral” choice?
I’m thrilled for both Missouri and Arizona! We got it on the ballot!!! It’s HUGE for our state in light of the race for fight against Kari Lake for Senate! This is such a positive move in the right direction and you can bet that it happened because of fighters who want Democracy back in their state!
I heard that Crystal Quade spent some time in roller derby - which made me love her from the start. Is that true? I hope so, because that's what we need - sharp elbows!
I always said that by imposing their views on everyone, religious regressives were setting themselves up for a backlash that would show them, once and for all, that they are not a silent majority. They are a minority. This is a demographic reality. And I hope Americans turn out to tell this subculture that no, they do not represent the mainstream and nobody wants a theocracy.
Abortion is a personal and private decision. The Supreme Court was wrong to interfere. To roll back Roe v Wade stripped women of their personal rights. ☹️
Just proves that women outnumber all the crusty old curmudgeons and young get-ahead men who have very little reality of what women want and deserve, which is Decision-making ability! This doesn’t mean that women aren’t going to carry a baby, it means they have a choice as to what is best for them. And for men who still have a need to tell us what to do, take the words “blue b—ls” out of your vocabulary. It sure makes a decision easier. (Sorry)
I’m sure you learned a lot from neighboring Kansas, who when forced to position the referendum on the ballot used very deceptive language; “vote yes if you mean no” bullshit, boy that didn’t work, maybe b/c it was such an insult to voters who understand English. But it was grass roots influencers that enabled the movement to win this women’s rights issue. My red South Carolina constitution requires two-thirds of both houses of congress to get it on the ballot; a bridge too far. It polls at 70+ percent approval of abortion access.

I am so sorry to hear this but so happy she was able to make a choice for herself
Thank you, we are all devastated.
Prayers for you and your family. Thankfully a decision will not be forced on your daughter in law.
The little angel. Sorry for her loss. I do hope she can recover and get pregnant again. There is a beautiful child waiting on her 🥰
🙏🙏💗
I am so sorry to hear this & can not imagine how difficult that decision will be. I am however, so incredibly grateful that she is somewhere that she will have all the rights she is entitled to. Blessings to all of you. 💜
Something similar happened to my daughter last year. It was heart wrenching but at least Montana is still a state where choice is respected.
So sorry to read this, but also happy that she can maker her decision in private with honest medical advice. I hope she will be ok.
I'm so sorry to learn of your daughter's dilemma. I pray it all goes well for her and your family.🙏

Blessings, prayers, love to your family.
How awful..I hope she does ok.
Oh, Maddie, sooo very sad to learn about your family's painful medical journey! May you all find peace and solace as you walk this difficult path. We are with you.
So sorry to read of the devastating time for your family. Holding you all in my heart, praying for a good as possible outcome.
I’m soooo excited to vote for Lucas Kunce!! Seeing the last of Josh Hawley would make me breathe much more easily, too!
💖🥰💖
I hope you elect Lucas Kunce. I’m from California, but I love his adds and have him a donation. I hope he beats the pants off Haul Ass Hawley. What a jerk.

Vote blue up and down the ballot!
Yes! It’s critical to elect Elad Gross AG, because even when we pass the abortion amendment, Bailey has vowed not to enforce it,
And Barb Phifer for SOS!

Originally a Californian as well!! Thanks so much for the assist 🥰
Kunce is more than worth the investment and I hope he wins big!
Thank you for donating and helping us all!!
And just btw I 💖 “Haul Ass Hawley” 😂 - the nickname ofc, not the creepy human impressionist 🙄
I have also donated to Lucas - and I don't even live in Missouri. 👍
Need Josh OUT!
💯!! Thanks so much for your support 🥰

Yep, Arkansas. One of the most backward, uh, I mean conservative states in the country. Now one of the most unjust states in the country!

...as though there were no phone calls between the two fascist groups to decide how to disobey the direction of the people, Winky-wink.
Time to rid ourselves of the Minority Rule pukesacks.

WOW
If voters can do it in red states like Kansas, Kentucky, and Ohio, we can vote to protect reproductive rights in Missouri.

Come November vote for the Democrat. It'll change your life.
Arizona too!!!🥳🎉👏👏👏
I signed the petition to enshrine abortion rights in the AZ Constitution. It will pass overwhelmingly!!!

Perfect scenario.

Yessssss
Former Arizona Gov. Douchey-canoe backs Trump and Lake, so that tells you everything you need to know.
The change in our collective energy is thrilling. I see excitement and hope everywhere I look! Thank you for describing it so beautifully.
I heard that Crystal Quade spent some time in roller derby - which made me love her from the start. Is that true? I hope so, because that's what we need - sharp elbows!
Tis true!
Check out this interview with her from last year - IIRC it includes roller derby footaage:

You are EVERYWHERE, Cheryl! What an inspiration you are. One question. Do you sleep? 😘. Thank you.
