How hard would have been to just say, “I’m not an expert on this, and I have had no personal experience with IVF. Before I comment on it, I should listen to those who are experts and have experience on this matter.”
Rick Brattin has a direct connection/once close friend who struggled and went through IVF. I am sure if he had any questions he could have asked her what she went through and how it all works. Educate himself prior to making these statements that show he is either absolutely heartless OR is completely ignorant on the subject. He has never been through the heartbreak of fertility issues, neither has his wife. She thinks about sperm and spits out a child.
Hopefully there are groups on the ground working to get smart women like Jess to run in Missouri. Thank you for all you are doing to raise awareness of your state!
Couldn't agree more. Our county Democratic Party in New Mexico decided to let no seat go uncontested. We may not win in tomorrow's city council election but we forced the Republicans to form a PAC and expend energy to deal with us. And our Democratic candidates are building campaigning skills and name recognition for the future.
I applaud your efforts in raising the issue of uncontested elections. Futility in terms of winning does not matter. Opposition generally forces candidates to go on the record with respect to issues and that by itself has significant value, especially long term. I would only add that I am also disturbed by people who DO choose to take on such a run and then put up token opposition. In today's world of social media you can get your message out a lot more than you used to without much money.
I do not live in his District or I think he would be ripe for opposition, and I lean more conservative than progressive. He clearly is uninformed about IVF and lacks any knowledge about what it takes for 1 in 7 couples in this country to get pregnant. Ignorance is on full display.
Infertility and IVF are both issues that should not matter what your political affiliation is. I also lean more conservative than progressive, but subjects like this and the ignorance shown make me sick. Dear Senator Rick, Even though you're hating on your mama for that follically challenged whatever it is on top of your head, that's no reason to be hating on all women in Missouri and elsewhere. Treat yourself to the whole enchilada at Hair Club for Men and leave the women-folk to make their own decisions regarding their personal health. Also, a fuller head of hair would provide you with greater self-confidence, meaning you wouldn't need to beat-up on women to prove your masculinity.

Update on yesterday's city council election: Two of our Dem candidates lost; the third Dem forced a runoff.
