"Trash is trash, no matter the bank account." Absolutely perfect description of the pitiful excuse of an administration that passes as leadership in America today. Thank you for your clear presentation of the abomination that was Trump's (NOT America's) birthday celebration.
I got your comment to 100 likes. hehehe, we need a little chuckle. It does hurt like &ell to see racism in the leadership. Please hang in there until the Day of the Democrats dawns and dozy don is ousted.
This whole time of this birthday garbage I kept hearing my Mom say "we might be poor but we are not white trash and we won't act like trash" You called it perfectly with "trash is trash, no matter the bank account" Great essay
Reading an article yesterday in the times about the Biden presidency and the errors and “disasters“ that occurred therein. I was dumbfounded. I’ll take 100 years of Biden at any age over a week of Trump.
Presidents are human. They make mistakes. But most of what Trump does isn’t a mistake. It’s intentional. Sometimes, like with tariffs, it’s an intentional refusal to believe experts know more than he does. Other times, it’s just an intentional act to cause other people harm.
And may I suggest that you also use, when they accuse you of having Trump Derangement Syndrome, say, "That's right. I hate his guts. The whole world hates his guts."
Yep. You nailed it and I learned the exact same coming up in Georgia. And when I would be warned, fiercely, not to act like white trash, it was always about behavior. Not about rich or poor.
I grew up rural and poor, but we had a garden and ate well. My mother was a teacher, and my daddy was a tenant farmer. We didn’t have fancy clothes, but we were clean. I was taught to love reading and stories. My mother would say, “We might be poor, but we are not trash. Behave yourself; act like you have some manners.” Being white trash is absolutely about behavior.
For some of us white people - like me - raised in this racist culture, the warnings used the "n" word i.e. being "white" and not trash and not like "them" meant performing the norms of white, middle class society for other whites to assure them we knew the difference.
I grew up in rural NC. My family has been on this land (area— we lost ownership decades ago) since before the Revolution. We lost a lot in the Civil War, natural disasters, and the Great Depression, like most folks who were here. The poverty I remember was mostly situational, as people were recovering from WWII when I was a kid. My parents were already creating a better life when I was born.
I understand exactly what “white trash” means. I understand exactly what the fear of being labeled that way is (a cousin with a less than stellar reputation and my aunt’s and mother’s shame taught me that!). You know instinctively being a Southern female if your parents watch your virtue. (I did not hear either parent use profanity until I was in the sixth grade— my mother said shit when she sewed her finger with the machine!)
I’ve always thought Donald J Tacky was trash. Melania is the poster child, my mama would say. You go, girl. This was a great piece. Appalachian State is Mountaineers, too. #ProtectTheParks
Thank you so much for stating this so eloquently. I come from Missouri people with hillbilly roots, farmers on one side of the family and educators on the other. The current administration is barbaric and and unbelievably awful. Good people are right to be horrified watching them act out the lowest of the low actions and behavior. As for so many people who have been unfairly labeled "white trash", you don’t have to be wealthy or educated to know the difference between right and wrong or good and evil.
Ironically, a high school classmate held up the photo of 45, his wife, and son in a gilded room as the epitome of class. I believe the son was sitting on a lion. This person then compared this picture of "class" to a photo of the Obamas and wondered how anyone could think the Obamas had class. The Obamas do have class in abundance and you bet 45 knows it too. It's not about the wealth.
I think many of us were taught about white trash. The visuals are on our tvs every day. It continues to confound me that so many MAGA folk cannot see how Trump and his family and cohorts embody this label.
🌟🌟🌟BRAVO!!🌟🌟🌟Once again, your pithy perfectly pitched penwomanship✍🏼 proves the 🖊️ pen is far mightier than the ⚔️ sword….or in this trashy, vulgar scenario; the fist!!

Approximately 4 1/2 short (yet emotionally interminable🙇🏻♀️)months hence comes a reckoning!!!! 🌊🌊🌊☮️🇺🇸🗽

"Dozy Don"--I like it. We need to start referring to him that way.
LOL! Jeff Teidrich referred to him as the Nodfather! Both terms definitely work!
Hey! I like that one, too!

Absolutely accurate description

Me too.
Joy Reid coined the term Magatrash and I LOVE it!!
Me too! What a great description of these people. I’m gonna use it everywhere it seems appropriate.
And may I suggest that you also use, when they accuse you of having Trump Derangement Syndrome, say, "That's right. I hate his guts. The whole world hates his guts."
Good one!
Ooooh I like that one.

My mama always said you might be poor but you can be clean!
This. Exactly this.

“Situational poverty creates stories. Generational poverty creates despair.”
And it is our stories that bring us together.
A truth often forgotten. Thanks for the reminder, Jess.
Brilliant.

My mother taught us that being uncouth (lack of manners) is a sign of “white trash.”

I sometimes and accurately refer to the felon/pedo administration as white trash.
Hey y'all. I mean, all y'all. Our house needs cleanin'. Let's take the trash out.

One hillbilly to another," spot on!" Wake up America!
So spot on. We are seeing the trashiest white trash embodying a whole political party.
