I say this, with utmost respect to you:

I am sorry to beg to differ with you; that is how you enable bullies even more; instead, try beating the shit out of bullies; and carry on, with your held high up, and staring right "down" at them. Try it, please; and I think that you will be pleasantly surprised at how fast these bullies run to their mamas, with their skinny tails tucked between their puny hind legs.

All this is from a guy, who has dealt with bullies all his life - right from grade school - I am 63, now - no whippersnapper, anklebiter, or a rugrat, as we used to say in Texas; my motto has always been: Never start a fight; but always finish it, to the starter's detriment.

🙏🙏.

I'm 60 years old and have been an abortion rights activist for nearly 40 of those years. I have never been thin. In fact, I weigh 300 lbs and anybody who wants to talk shit about me is free to kiss my big fat ass. I get all kinds of fat shaming and it just fuels my passion for protecting patients from protesters. Don't lose sight of the fact that they have to pick on our bodies because they've got nothing else. 😘♀️✌️

My best friend Rose 🌺 is very large, and I love & admire her & see-feel beyond the weight issue - I know her life challenges too.

— here’s the rub, I have a bit of fat phobia; ditto homosexuality.

So it seems that when I ‘humanize’ a person by getting to know them, I do a ‘carve out’ for them.

— I guess I *internalized whatever it is in society that prevails that way … so I still must fight it.

Now in my 70’s with a few health problems & a lower body metabolism I’ve put on a bit of weight;

— my husband says the thing that bothers him the most is my self-loathing about it.

My faith says there’s going to be a resurrection of the dead & that the world will eventually become

what God had intended … so I console myself that ‘perfection’ can wait till then — yours & mine. 💠

The obsession people have for thinness is the direct result of marketing a specific and narrow definition of beauty. It's about corporations making money. I grew up in the 70's when the average fashion model was 5'10" tall and weighed 110 lbs. After my second child was born I weighed 225 lbs, and I starved myself for a year and lost 100 lbs. I'm 68, and last fall I found out I have severe osteoporosis from depriving my body of food including calcium. My sister was bulimic and spent her life obsessing over weight and abusing laxatives. She died 4 years ago from colon cancer, a result of laxative abuse and malnutrition. Elaine, stay as you are. You're beautiful.

Jess, I’m so sorry you have endured such undeserved comments. MAGA doesn’t seem to understand that the rest of us have as much to fight for as they do and the RIGHT to exercise the 1st amendment. Attacking someone’s appearance is petty and used whenever there’s nothing else to go after. Keep up the good fight, dear one as you and people like you across the country try to dig us out of this sewage infested administration. And BTW, happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Even before Elon bought Xitter, pronounced “shitter” according to TCfromLA, that platform was considered a cesspool by people, such as reporters, who thought they needed to be on it in order to do their jobs.We are talking more than 10 years ago.

Jess, I greatly admire your perseverance, determination, and dedication to fighting for democracy and exposing the lying MAGAts for who they are. Nevertheless, she persisted, as Elizabeth Warren would say. You go girl says this 72 year old lady.

Beautifully said, Jess. You are an inspiration, and a true American. You can also use the tools at https://dnschecker.org/ip-whois-lookup.php

to check any webpage or content creator. During Trump’s 2016 campaign I accidentally uncovered an “American Patriot” site with these tools. It was based in Russia, & had been established only 3 weeks before. The account was being widely shared by my Christian friends, and when I blew the whistle, I was instantly blocked.

Of all the substacks I read in the morning yours is the one I jump to first.

Once again, even on a shitty subject that should have never have to be written about in political discourse, you cut through the BS with clarity. Thank you.

I'm thinking AI in political ads is even going to be worse than bots though. They should be outlawed immediately.

A MAGAt labeled me Commie Calder when I was mayor- because I wanted more community involvement. They chanted - I laughed about it. Your post reminded me how good it is to stay focused on the things that really make a difference.

I was mass attacked after I posted some mild criticism of Bernie Sanders when he was running in the Dem primary, the infamous "Bernie Bros" were relentless, nasty and threatening. I realize now they were mostly foreign bots, but it was very unpleasant. The ironic thing is that I actually liked Senator Sanders.

I remember those bernie bots. They destroyed his candidacy. The internet has made politics more vicious than ever, and so has Trump. There are so many mean people online now. They even attack Jeopardy contestants. Being herd animals, we are susceptible to being propagandized, some of us more than others.

The power of the patriarchy to set beauty standards by employing marketing and the media goes back generations. All little girls grow up brainwashed, taught that they aren't valuable unless they conform to the standards men set. They are the ones who are the real cruel and vile ones.
