Jess you are a hero. Missouri needs YOU. Will you run again? You have every reader as a supporter.

Mary S's avatar

Yes!!! Money alone doesn’t win races for Democrats, but I promise you, Jess, you will have donations from every reader far and wide.

SeekingReason's avatar

Bravo Jess. I will start setting something aside to support your candidacy. I have supported, as much as possible, good people running without the wealth of many candidates. Starting full retirement will vastly slow this down, but you will be an exception because you are exceptional.

SeekingReason's avatar

I realize you aren’t running yet…I don’t care…whatever year you decide to run, I’ll be a supporter!

Hooray! Says this Australian living in the UK and Belgium!

Stateside, do you know about ‘fantasy football’? Where you get to combine your ideal players into the prefect side? USA, can I please have Jess as your Secretary of Education?

HeyMom's avatar

I second that nomination with enthusiasm!!

Though I live in NC and I’m a single mom struggling financially, if you run for office, I will pick up more side gigs to send you money to win! We desperately need folks like you running for office.

Thanks for the good news on ordinary people running for office in MO to help their communities.

Keep up the good fight and happy May Day/Beltane!

Please post the address to which we can send checks made out to “Jess Piper for Congress”.

Jess, I've been following you for awhile and became a subscriber today. You gave me hope after a painful day yesterday with the Callais decision. Sorry it took so long but there are so many substacks and I have to manage my subscription budget. :) You offer a unique and necessary perspective that more people- especially on the coasts! (I'm a New Yorker) - need to hear and learn from. Thank you so much!

Jess Piper's avatar

Thank you, friend. I am honored.

I read you too, even though I’m on the left coast. California’s Central Valley is very red. I live in the blue Bay Area, but love reading your posts because they remind me of where I live —65 years ago. Keep running and keep winning. Your people need you.

Some of us wander the red roads of the Sacramento River Valley (and the San Joaquin to see relatives and friends). I did it for 20 years as a union agent/organizer. On the other side of those low hills that separate you from the San Joaquin River Valley, it's as red as any county in MO, OK, or AR. Prop. 50 is going to make the CaliCrackers around here deal with a strong Dem from the Sonoma-Marin coastal strip. I can't wait for the exploding heads. Lots of work between now and November. Three fascists on the Shasta County board of supes have installed a Florida election denier as the registrar of voters. They refuse to censure for an investigator's confirmed reports he used violent threats to keep his non-MAGAt employees in line. The race will be to see how easy it will be for him to stuff Dem ballots into shredders. Shasta is one of the last counties in the state that saw a lynching (coupla white stagecoach robbers). Male strength around her is measured by how many laws they can break while avoiding a big green bus ride to High Desert State Prison's reception housing unit. Beautiful scenery, ugly AF people.

Labor Omnia Vincit, really helpful to have your “testimony” from a red area in California. You know about Jess Piper, obviously. Art Cullen, Pulitzer Prize-winning editor of the Storm Lake Times Pilot and author in NW Iowa, is also a valuable source of info from rural red districts (which you probably already know). Thanks!

I became a subscriber even though I live in Seattle because I grew up in Ferguson and Raytown and Lees Summit.I don’t want you out there doing Gods work and having to pay for your own gas, and worry about feeding your family. You bring me hope.

Absolutely correct. ❤️❤️❤️

I'm on the east coast too--New Jersey. And I love her.

Thank you for what you do. And thank you for writing this, sharing what you’re seeing on the ground. The Callais decision, and the reactions from the governor of Louisiana as well as what’s happening country wide with all the gerrymandering has been pretty disheartening this week. But your post has given me hope that maybe the tide is finally turning. Maybe this is the moment that working people are finally, peacefully, rising up and saying no to the “let them eat cake” regime. Thanks again!

SeekingReason's avatar

Tammy well said “Let them eat cake” regime…I think I’ll start using that! 😄

SCOTUS can destroy the VRA, but they can’t force people to vote Republican. The GOP has abdicated every pretense of caring for their constituents.

People are angry.

ThankYou for your tenacity, energy,&for your reporting.

I hope you will run for Eric Schmitt’s senate seat in ‘28. You have exposure in out state Missouri that most candidates haven’t had. I know plenty of people in St. Louis that would help.

Toni Blackwood's avatar

I second that motion.

Wow. Filling that empty jar, all right! This is a May Day message that rings loud and wonderful today, Jess. You have been working this beat with relentless heart head and muscle and often heartbreakingly. Thank you so much for ALL you do and for today’s brilliant and hope-filled posting. Homemade jam to a jar of cuttings.. this is the way.

"Homemade jam to a jar of cuttings.. this is the way." I'll carry these words in my heart very carefully today. Thank you.

Jess, thank you. I'm amazed at your memory. These stories help us realize we're not alone.

Thanks for sharing hope💙.

I moved to the Lake of the Ozarks from KC a few years ago, I still see Rump signs here. Not as many but they're still here. Jess-when you visit with people in small towns across this state who live among the MAGA, do they talk about why they think their neighbors still support this administration? What is holding these people in this MAGA mind-set, do people at your meetings ever relay any of that to you? I can't comprehend why there are still 30%+ who still support the R's.

Jess Piper's avatar

At this point, we’ve all agreed that it is just cult behavior. There is no reason for anyone to be standing behind him at this point unless you are a billionaire.

Twila Samborski's avatar

For sure, these people have dug their heels in so deep at this point, they can't back down now. In my experience, they just get ugly because there is no defense.

Rallying this afternoon in St Joe, MO. Indivisible Persisterhood chapter. Got to keep showing up and pushing back!

Jess Piper's avatar

Thank you for being there, friend!!!

I needed this bit of energy! Jess, we'll be channeling you this weekend at Virginia's Rural Retreat. I am reeling from the Calais decision and the MAGA vultures in Louisiana that stopped a primary two days before voters were to come to the polls. And Florida.... But as Tom Cleaver says, we were born into this time, we were made for this time.

Thank you, Jess, for your hope, and for the hard work you're doing. I often wish YOU'd run for office, and that would be amazing, but then I think you're best doing exactly what you're doing.

We NYers really need someone to come forth & challenge Schumer & Gillibrand - NYC is fortunate with Mamdani - he showed that it can be done.

And Jess is doing so much!

LongIslander's avatar

Schumer has got to go. He is useless.

Hopeful!!! Thank you! This is the news we need to hear.
