I wanted to be a school teacher my whole life and had to change my career aspirations because at the time I was going to school, I was already earning more than a starting teacher was paid and I couldn't justify the expense of higher ed for that profession.

I realized I'm a teacher in spirit, if not on paper. I teach adults every day in my position; I'm an accountant. I teach my colleagues how to submit paperwork, and how to navigate software. I troubleshoot for them so they don't have to, and then I teach them how to avoid whatever mistake was made.

If you teach, you're a teacher. Period.

There are many people writing on Substack that I follow and admire - for their knowledge and experience and their ability to cut through the noise and help me make sense of what’s going on - but you inspire me. That sets you apart and distinguishes you as a teacher. Thank you for your bravery and your willingness to put yourself at the front of this fight for the heart and soul of our country.
