I was late in getting here to say that! However--I won't be late in saying this: campaigns are brutal. I was "The Candidate's Lovely Wife" a few decades ago when my then husband ran for Missouri's A.G. It consumed our lives, and it was nearly unbearable when he lost. I would never wish that on anyone I liked; but, I would be the first to support that person as much as I was able.
Excellent. I was born and raised in Missouri. I left after I had children because the school system in Kansas City, where I had gone to school, had deteriorated so dramatically. Crossed into Johnson County until my kids went off to college and I was free to move elsewhere. I live in a tiny town in the U.P. presently. No skin in the Missouri politics game anymore--but you can count on me for a sentimental contribution, as well--maybe buy some radio time!!
Thanks for the update Jess. At this point we are all getting desperate for a functioning Federal government. Removing him from the equation can only be a good thing. Now let’s convince the constituents to support their self interests.
I would like to be more sympathetic to the constituents of Missouri’s 6th Congressional District, but part of good citizenship is PAYING ATTENTION to what your elected representatives are actually doing (though some consideration must be given to the fact that much of the media in the district is right wing and was covering up for Sam Graves’ anti-constituent activities in Congress).
Good citizens considering the record of incumbent politicians should heed this advice from psychology: It’s not what people SAY that counts, it’s what they DO that counts!
They were lied to--Jessie explained the media around there pumps nothing but supportive words about Sam.
Our fourth estate is in tatters. The key is figuring out how to get these folks to stop watching Fox as much, and how to ramp up some small local town papers or online communications that give them another view of what is really going on.
We area also all learning, in the Age of MAGA, that good citizenship means working harder to be *truly* informed. We cannot expect the info to just be delivered to us, bc the daily local/cnetrist news paper no longer exists. I agree the preponderance of rightwing media in MO hasn't helped, but - come on, people! If jess can find out this info, so you YOU. As you and Jess wisely say, measure your reps in Congress by what they DO. it is up to US, no matter our situations (I have 3 PT jobs, but I make time to read the news from multiple sources and follow what's happening locally and statewide where I live). These days, with one political party working actively to destroy democracy and the other fumbling to meet the moment, ALL OF US must do our part. That starts with being truly informed about what's happening where you live.
Congrats! I’m hoping we say good-bye to Ann Wagner this election cycle, too. Fred Wellman looks to be a promising candidate to challenge this Congressional Republican who has made millions while in office. It’s time!!!
You have Sam. We have the very useless but ever so concerned Susan Collins. She famously said when first running that she would only stay for two terms. Six years each. Now she is running for her sixth, and town halls are never held since she gets her money from wealthy out of staters.
Now we just need to get the Democrats (the corporate ones, the AIPAC ones) to actually do something to hold the treasonous Trump Admin and ALL it's sycophants in Congress accountable for their coverups, complicity with enemy Dictators, insider trading, abdication of responsibility, abuse of legal residents and profiling of immigrants while simultaneously helping rural communities, funding schools, restoring fairness and truth to media and airwaves, and getting with the 21st century clean energy program, which is NOT fossil fuels and nukes. That's the job. Any takers?
Can't wait for that list! I still find it unnerving that your & my "US congressman" (what a joke) are the same ... I live in Lincoln County - mideast & you all the way up on the other side - closer to KC than STL......
He will get a nice fat pension and lifetime medical care, unlike the great majority of the "constituents" he so faithlessly served. I hope you get better, but hope doesn't get us far these days.
This right here, ⬆️⬆️⬆️ is what fills me some days with such an anger that I have to distract myself so I don’t dwell on it. This whole salary and benefit package that they get is unjust. There is no other word for it. It is unjust. In these last years, this has been a congressional group that have done absolutely nothing and every time you turn around they’re on another break. And so I have to guard myself or I just am mad all the time.
💯 we MUST push for reforms. They should have “normal” benefits like the rest of us. 401 K and it all ends when you leave. They are NOT better than us. They’re “service” is no sacrifice AT ALL!! Being elected to Congress is great for future jobs no need to give them ANYTHING more!! WTAF are we doing??
You should run🎈

Great idea! Where can I send some $$ ?
Agree
Came here to say the same thing!!
I agree.

👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥
Congresswoman Piper has a nice ring to it—just saying. Missouri deserves competent representation in Congress.
❤️❤️❤️
Dont live in Missouri but Id support you too!!
Ditto!
Hi Jess,
We own a family grain farm in the 6th District.
We would support you if you run.

Linda, sounds like my timeline, too! I am now in Ann Arbor.
Agree
Congratulations, Jess!! I’m SURE the pressure you’ve put on him helped him decide! 👏🏻👏🏻😆

States Newsroom
I get it and... people are exhausted. Hate is easier than love and when every news channel is Fox it is so so easy to not resist
Thank you, Jess!
It's hard to vote someone out who has no competition or competition with no $$ to spread the word introducing themselves to the district.
BTW when he was unopposed I wrote in names like Mickey Mouse.
Sometimes it's both--but I get you.

Amen. Anyone can get fooled, but when you’re fooled the same way by the same person a dozen times, you’ve earned it.
Have you ever been a farmer?
I repeat: PAY ATTENTION to what they are DOING, not what they are SAYING!
You did not answer my question.
If you have something to say, just say it!
It is a simple yes or no question.... that is all. Sorry you feel so offended by it.
Congrats! I’m hoping we say good-bye to Ann Wagner this election cycle, too. Fred Wellman looks to be a promising candidate to challenge this Congressional Republican who has made millions while in office. It’s time!!!
I hope the blue wave washes Ann away. My wife and I are supporting Fred Wellman.
Yessss!!!! 👏👏👏
So, Jess, there WILL be at least one Democrat running in your district? Will Blue Missouri bat for him/her?
Currently there are three and I’m expecting at least one more
Named... Jess Piper?
You would be amazing
Excellent news!
Cut from the same cloth as KY’s McConnell. Glad to see both of them go!

Maine deserves so much better. Olympia Snowe was to Susan what John McCain was to Lindsay Graham.

Will you run?
I can’t this cycle. Still getting back on my feet from my run in ‘22
Just let us know your pick of the pack!
Yes-let us know who you would endorse.
You should tun. Heaven knows enough people in your district know you.
Good riddance!
