Reprehensible. This needs national attention, bc if your legislators get away with it, their actions will be replicated elsewhere. Just curious, but who owns these private properties? Lots of elected officials own real estate.

You are amazing, by the way.🙏

Denise's avatar

Go to each county courthouse online and look up the records by address. It's easy enough to find out who owns the properties.

Yes, when one state finds success in something other states share how they did it it and others follow suit. This is how that 'all white' town in the Midwest happened and others are popping up.

Minneapolis found a way to begin chasing out 🧊 and has already began to share tips. Illinois and Pritzker shared his advice with Waltz as well as mayors. So while it can be at a disadvantage in many cases there are times it works in our favor as well.

Howard L. Johnson's avatar

Denise... what all white town in the midwest? Seriously.. It is getting more and more difficult to know what is going on throughout the country.. News networks are compromised...thanks..

Arkansas to no one's surprise.

"Yesterday, Channel 5 released a documentary that quickly became one of the most discussed videos on the internet. It showcases a group of young white nationalists in rural Arkansas attempting to build what they call “Return to the Land,” a private community explicitly restricted to people of “European heritage.” The footage is uncomfortable and occasionally absurd. But buried in the cringe is a moment that cuts to the very heart of America’s oldest lie.

When the interviewer asks the community’s leader, Eric Orwoll, a seemingly straightforward question—"Who counts as white?"—he stumbles."

US Blues's avatar

OMG! I hope this stupidity gets the same result as town in NH that was founded by libertarians that had to be abandoned because it was overrun by bears because no one wanted to do anything because there were no laws. 😂

AuntiBeadle's avatar

Ah! Libertarians doing Libertarian things. Or not…🤔

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

That's the most Libertarian thing of all! Doing nothing, and expecting others to pay the taxes that pay for the services they think spontaneously happen.

Kayo's avatar

An 'all white' community in rural Arkansas....good, let the racist losers segregate themselves from

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

It was a laugh, as long as all the losers are kept out of the gene pool, I would count it as a win.

Dennis McAtee's avatar

That's been in the news for months.

Liberal Old Lady's avatar

That’s insane! Thankfully many of your readers have some good ideas for fighting back. I’m lucky to live & vote in Oregon where our two Democratic Senators hold town halls in every county every year! All our Representatives but one are also approachable Democrats. I’m so sorry & pissed off that you have to deal with this crap! It’s not right!

Ms. Jodois's avatar

I hear that Phil Knight, of Nike fame, has donated $$$$ to try and turn the state red.

Sharon Flynn's avatar

Who should we contact for tips?

Linda Weide's avatar

Sounds like it is time for a class action lawsuit from Jess and people. I would ask Norm Eisen from the Contrarian if he would represent the group, although he probably has his hands full with cases standing up the administration. And, this is a good way to spread the news.

Teri Gelini's avatar

Agree. And Jess is a warrior.

Linda Weide's avatar

Agree. Jess certainly is a warrior.

BG Pete Chiefari's avatar

Is there any way that you and your fellow citizens can band together and get this in front of a judge? Seems to me that the only possibility of getting any kind of daylight on this is to bring a lawsuit. Maybe the ACLU will help you. It is infuriating. Makes you want to punch somebody in the nose. That's the last thing that should be done of course. You will be in my prayers.

Pam Pangle's avatar

It's happening in northern Arkansas too. We are not represented, we are subjects.

Jon Margolis's avatar

Get a lawyer and sue under the real property laws.

Linda Weide's avatar

I personally see that it is time for a tax revolt in the US.

Sharon Flynn's avatar

Who is doing this in KY? I no longer live there but grew up there and care.

SeekingReason's avatar

Perfect word for it…subjects. 👍🏼

Thomas Boardman's avatar

It is happening in Central Arkansas also. Congressman Bruce Westerman's office in Hot Springs is behind a locked door on outside of the Federal Building. You cannot get inside the building.

Werner Huget's avatar

It is up to each of us to do anything and everything we can to keep our Republic from being stolen. It is “our” government not whoever sits in the White House nor the Representatives or Senators in Congress. If we don’t act then “We the People” does not mean anything.

Werner Huget's avatar

The only way to change this is to vote them out of office. Leave to the Republicans to further voter suppression tactics. It is up to all of us to do our part to hold unto our Republic.

Alan Peterson's avatar

"We are not represented, we are subjects” is brilliant!

LJ's avatar

I live in FL. Need I say more?

Brae's avatar

This happened in Maine trumps first term. Four people were arrested on orders from Susan Collins bc they were sitting in her office waiting to speak to her. Eventually they won in court but had high costs bc of having to hire lawyers. This isn’t new people. It’s just been ignored.

Albionqueen's avatar

It is disgusting that you can’t speak to your representative, don’t vote for them again because they are not interested in your views, write to your local paper, post out leaflets letting residents know that they are not being represented properly, make a fuss whenever, and wherever you can, use social media, let people know! 🤷‍♀️🤬🤦‍♀️

Brae's avatar

We have done everything you just mentioned. We have been challenging her every word. Like many other States, we are out numbered by republicans. People vacation on our coast which is the part that democrats live in so they don’t see the ugliness of the two thirds northern part of the State. This has been an on going fight since 2010. We got Lepage out but republicans have hung onto Collins.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

As a Mainer who moved away, I always try to explain the southern part, and most of the coast, is live and let live, pretty progressive. But the northern section is why the misanthropes go, people who hate other people. And the good people stuck there have my sympathy. People tend to blame all of Maine, but they really are two distinct voting districts.

Brae's avatar

Thank you. I try to explain this over and over but no one listens. You described the State of Maine perfectly.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

I left when I graduated High School, but my bestie is there, and many family members still live in the family home.

Bill Alstrom (MA/Maine/MA)'s avatar

Truth. We were lucky enough to enjoy southern coastal Maine for about 15 years. We left in 2013. Our small business health care plan (Dirigo) was being terminated by the Nazi known as Gov LePage. (The governor that told the NAACP to "kiss my ass".)

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

I left when I turned 17, and graduated from High School. I go back to see family and friends and always have it in my heart as “home” even though I have lived more years as an adult, away from it.

Ah yes “Le Road rage hemorrhoid LePage”. I apologized for Maine, explaining that he only got in because that selfish third party independent tried to copy Angus, and split the vote. At least he couldn’t run the third time because he was in jail.

Linda Querry's avatar

have you talked to your local NAACP?

Brae's avatar

Our grassroots org has talked to everybody. At this point, our goal is to turn the State Blue completely. Trump and Collin’s behavior just might do it this time.

Lynda Phoenix's avatar

Susan Collins is the worse! She continually votes against women's rights.

Brad Jolliff's avatar

No, Ann Wagner is worse.

Brae's avatar

There’s a name I haven’t heard. Who is she? I didn’t think there could be a worse female Senator than Susie.

LoFiPressWA's avatar

The fact that it's private property should be nullified by the fact that the rent is being paid with TAX DOLLARS. That SHOULD be how it would work in a sane, non-athoritarian country. This is gross and I'm so sorry to the midwesterners who are facing it. Keep fighting.

Andrea Schulz's avatar

You’re correct about tax dollars nullifying private property issue. That is how it works. However throughout the USA, the law is ignored. Your remedy is to conduct a first amendment audit and then file a law suit.

LoFiPressWA's avatar

Thank you! I thought I understood the law, but these days, it's nice to have someone tell you that, no, you're not nuts, and yes, we have real laws that already cover this shit. Another day, another facepalm.

Lisa Reed's avatar

It’s unbelievable that people still vote for people that take their voice.

Ally House (Oregon)'s avatar

Sadly, the rhetoric gets priority over reality. And they will never see.

Terrie's avatar

They're lazy and ignorant (uneducated). They've been indoctrinated to vote straight ticket - just pull one lever and you're done. Off you go for some lunch out somewhere - such a gooood boy ... 🦴🐶

l o's avatar

how many people, esp maga, have the time or incentive to try to converse with the reps?

Barbara A. Ginsberg's avatar

Hopefully, someone with a platform of at least being half way responsive to their constituents will run against them, with videos of people being told to get off the private property. This is the kind of stuff that people understand in a way that they don't understand ideology.

Dan Margolies's avatar

And these are the same politicians who are always complaining about "cancel culture".

this article makes my blood boil. "rep" jason smith is the same way. he never calls nor writes back every. single. week. i write a column in our newspaper refuting the trump lies that he spews in his weekly "capitol report" that reads more like a trump fairy tale instead of any kind of "grown up political report". biden, biden, biden.... it feels like we have no recourse any more. however, i gleefully add there Smith has an opponent running & hopefully will root smith out!

Jess Piper's avatar

Jason is a huge offender. He is a terrible legislator. He obviously does not care about your district.

Tina Quick's avatar

And Eric Schmitt is horrible and a dangerous bully! he lives eats and breathes trump. Worthless!

l o's avatar

Spot on! Can’t wait to see him go!

Janice Palesch's avatar

It's not a new fairy tale. Trump didn't even create it. George Orwell did.

l o's avatar

it began long before that.

Linda A's avatar

The profound arrogance on the part of just about every Republican astounds, but this is a truly evil, anti-democratic conspiracy. They rigged the system for decades while Americans looked away, and now they believe, as does their Demented King, they have the right to stay in power, unaccountable. Thanks for exposing them. As always, your courage will lead others.

lena's avatar

They are on the ride with the regime to take away our rights.

J Frost's avatar

Do you really believe these people were voted in honestly?

Dana Bennett's avatar

No! NOT HONESTLY VOTED IN!

Howard L. Johnson's avatar

Yes, elections are well run here in AZ, dont know aboit MO... there are a lot of stupid people out there... easily conned... I am in AZ, taught 15 years high school CTE classes. Met with many parents... Stupidity is rampant...

AZ is number 1 in vouchers... dumb..

Vouchers are bankrupting the state and has been copied by many other states..

Jess, this needs wider coverage. How about ProPublica? The more timid legacy media often take on stories that ProPublica is brave enough to scoop. Keep up your heroic work.

Tom Brady's avatar

So sad that these representatives feel so safe in their reelection that they do not need to talk to their constitutes. Probably the same as it is here in South Carolina. As long as they have an R next to their name, they will be elected no matter how useless they are.

DuchessNikki's avatar

Has anyone reached out to the owner of the building to verify if they actually called in for trespassing and if they were pressured to do so.

Jess Piper's avatar

In the Springfield video, the owner is standing next to the police officers

GeorgeC's avatar

Corrupt slime. Sadly, not surprising.

DuchessNikki's avatar

Sometimes police will solicit a trespass and owners feel pressured to comply. Sometimes owners are just scummy. Any local journalist who would be willing to interview the owner for a possible article?

Janice Palesch's avatar

Just another example of why corporate interests do not align with those of the People.

Margy Marsh's avatar

I suspect that this is happening in a lot, if not all, red states. You are correct. They feel that don't have to interact with constituents because the are only beholding to their donors. Like you always say, Missouri is the test site.

Brian's avatar

North Alabama representatives haven’t done any open constituent meetings in years. Just closed-door, invitation-only meetings with high dollar donors.

I am in NE MN & our state senator, Pete Stauber, is also MIA. He is a 2020 election denier & orange stain pawn. Just introduced a bill to open the Boundary Waters to mines that are not compatible with a water-centric area. Another gift to his cult leader. 90% of MN are against this but Pete doesn't care...

Pamela's avatar

Thanks for bringing this to light. So many people are oblivious to what is going on and every story is important. I live in the Midwest - so I know!
